![]() The biggest improvement comes in the form of a completely redesigned diplomacy system, which features a resource called Diplomatic Capital. In terms of Rising Tide’s content, there are species to discover, refined systems to play with and new technologies to research. Fortunately, Rising Tide delivers on both counts. It needed to revitalise the base game, and allow it to stand on its own two feet. Undoubtedly fuelled partly by nostalgia, these early comparisons generated a lot of hype and expectation expectations that Beyond Earth quite simply didn’t live up to.īecause of this, Beyond Earth’s first expansion needed to have a big impact. With its sci-fi theme and indeed, its very name, the game was initially touted as an heir to Alpha Centauri. One reason why, to many, Beyond Earth initially felt a little uninspired was because of the inevitable comparisons it drew to Alpha Centauri. Because of this, I found the game pretty enjoyable, albeit not to the same standard as V or some of the other more seminal games in the franchise’s storied history.Īs such, I was pretty pleased to have the opportunity to get stuck in to Beyond Earth’s first expansion, Rising Tide, and discover what it had to add to Beyond Earth’s overall experience. ![]() As a sci-fi themed spin-off to Civilization V, a lot of things about Beyond Earth appealed to me. The cool stuff at the beginning did not keep me excited thru the game.I’ll kick off this review with an admission – I am a huge Civilization fan, and I have played a lot of Civilization V. Because even towards the end of the game the visuals aren't as attractive as Civ on Earth. So much for making harmony with the world? You would have to play this game over and over until everything new becomes second nature and recognizable and I don't want to take that time to get to that point. I could be standing next to a friendly or killer plant and attack it just in case before it kills me. What does that mean? How do I counter act that? Am I doing O.K.? Am I on the right track? I don't know? I get warnings that my neighbor is ahead of me because of X,Y, & Z. Yes, it's a different world and it's suppose to have different things, but is my city growing? I can't recognize anything good or bad. around your cities, the mineral deposits and oil that you recognize and want to have or need for your development. In Civ you see your cities growing, you recognize the farms, mines, roads, etc. If you are a fan of Civ this is the same concept, except unlike Civ you can't visually understand what is happening as the game progresses.
